Parents who have children may find it challenging whenever traveling for work or for a business trip. The time factor does not really matter, what matters a lot is the fact that you are not close to each other. It is not only challenging to the parent but also to the kids. Since there is very little you can do about it, the tips below can help the experience be less inconveniencing. Understand the ideal time to inform your child about your leaving. The age of the child and his temperament should guide you. Some kids may not understand the date and time interval you communicate. Therefore it is advisable to just tell them just a few days’ notice. Older kids are much more understanding, so you can break the news to them anytime. In some cases, you may be required to leave very urgently in such a way that you can’t give your child much notice.

Ensure the child knows when you are leaving and where you will be going. One of the most sensitive information that you should not forget at all cost is letting your kid know when you will come back home. Then you can teach him to cross out one day every day that passes and that the last day marked on the calendar is when you will be coming back. It would be great for the child to know where you will be and assure her that you will be safe. For the older kids, you can just tell them the name of the place you will be. Giving an assurance to your child that you will be taking care of him while you are away is very important. Make sure you discuss the place the child will stay when you are traveling. By just having a parent away alone is very difficult, so you should not dare make any additional alterations that might interrupt your kid’s life. If you are privileged to have a babysitter, let her know the instructions and the feeding schedules that should be followed strictly.

You can also leave short surprise notes at easy-to-find places such as favorite shoe. You can consider videotaping yourself as you read a goodnight message to the child so that the kid can always play the video before drifting into sleep. It is better to part with the child by giving them a hug and a kiss and saying nice words how you can’t wait seeing them again. It is not good to limit communication over the phone, Skype or any video chat just for the purpose of keeping in touch and bonding as a family. Do not allow room for incessant calling or chatting as it can distract your attention from your traveling core duties. It is advisable to show the babysitter or whoever is taking care of the child that you trust her completely. On arriving from the trip, bring along something for your child as well as spend some time together giving hugs, kisses’ and catching up.
